Free Facilities

  • Full birthing facilities for normal births.
  • Pool for water births and labour.
  • Partners or a support person can stay.  (please see Partners for more information).
  • You can transfer postnatally to the Centre from a hospital or other birthing venue, within 12 hours of a normal birth or 24 - 48 hours after a Caesarean Section.
  • Postnatal stays are subject to availability of rooms. Your Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) should arrange the transfer.
  • Postnatal stays are on average 2 - 3 days.  Length of stay depends on the type of birth you have had and your progress.  Registered staff will discuss your potential day of departure with you at the beginning of your stay.
  • 24 hour care postnatally provided by highly trained and skilled midwives and nurses.
  • On your day of discharge we will do checks on Mum and Baby in the morning ready for you to leave around 10am.
  • Kitchenette with snacks, fruit, milo, tea and coffee making facilities near your room.
  • TV in rooms.
  • All linen provided for you and your baby.
  • Free Prenatal, Birth and Parenting Classes. Please phone the Birthing Centre for details.

What To Bring With You

  • Comfortable clothes/nightgowns
  • For birth - a pair of socks and a large t-shirt or sarong is good. 
  • Dressing gown and slippers or comfortable shoes
  • Toiletries – soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste etc.
  • Your own medications that you may be taking.
  • Clothes for baby to go home in.  Discuss this with your caregiver.
  • Blanket for baby
  • Baby car seat

What We Supply

  • Baby nappies and wipes
  • Sanitary pads
  • Wraps and clothes for baby to wear while staying at the Centre
  • All towels and linen provided while you stay
  • Meals, snacks and drinks (please state any special dietary needs on your booking form)
